Ghosts of the past

The film that was inside the camera that you just bought holds images of days gone by.

Ghosts of the past

Post by GrahamS »

Looking back in time.

I found this photograph in our family archive. This is Maria Concetta Ammirata, my Great-Great-Paternal Grandmother.

This is her birth certificate. She was born on December 9th 1865, in Palermo, Sicily.

I think she was a handsome woman. I see a great strength of character, which was inherited by my Grandfather and my father. The familia Ammirata were in the olive oil and timber business.

As someone who knows woefully little about his family, I can say this is an incredible, special piece of history to have. Beautiful.

. I have the family tree going back to 1653, Scott. I constantly try to convince my children how important it is to have and to keep.

Awesome!

It takes several years on your experience (age) until you realize how important and wonderful this is.

Maria Concetta was one of twelve siblings. Large families were the norm in those days.

Hey, you never alluded to your Sicilian side before! Both families on my Mother's side came from the Catania area, and were olive growers. I have photos of one of my great-grandfathers and his mother, and we always joked that they looked so much alike we could say he was dressed in drag when viewing great-great-grandmother's photo.

My mom’s grandfather came from Savona province, in Ligure. There is some Italian heritage in this forum!
