Using Google-Plus images here

Post by Philip »

When I'm posting images to BB's like here and at NelsonFoto, I usually use Flickr as the host of the image. But I have plenty of photos I wouldn't mind showing here but which don't seem right for what I show at Flickr. So I keep looking for other sites to host them for linking back to the boards. For ten years or so I have used Photobucket and will probably continue to do so, though it's become a little more difficult in recent years.

Anyway, for the past five months Google has been taking every single image from my hard drive and placing it in a big folder associated with my completely inactive Google-Plus account. It strikes me that, since the images are already there in G+, I should be able to link to an image for posting here. But I cannot figure out how, indeed if, I can do it. When I use the Img tags around the G+ url, I don't get the image showing up here. I don't especially want to open up my images on G+ so they are set to private and -- of course -- this may be the problem.

Anyone got any ideas for sharing G+ photos here . . . but not *there*??? :)

I think you've found the problem. While you can share a photo with select people, you cannot share them via a Web link without making them public and available to all.

I've run into the same issue with DropBox. I have some photos, and if I wanted to display them, they had to be in a public folder. I tried to use the "Share link" approach, but the photos wouldn't display on an Internet forum.

I've tried using Google + before with this forum and others. Still have never figured out how. Making them public might work. I'll play around with it later. I only upload certain photos to G+ so I'll see if making them public works a little later.

Mike, had you also set the image to "public"?

I think that I did. Although this is an https file, which of course doesn't mean that much, I guess. I only have two or three photos in there.

I prefer the Picasa interface for this

Log in to Google with your Google+ account

Go to Picasa-web-albums using the do-not-redirect link: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/myphotos?noredirect=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Find the picture you want to share

Look on the right side for Link for this photo
* Click on the image only box that appears and choose the size Image

You can copy/paste the link that appears in between the img brackets

For a slide show:

Navigate to the album that you want to make a slideshow for.
NB you need to be viewing the album, not the page of all albums, to get the correct code.

Make sure that the security for this album is set to at least "anyone with the link".

Choose Link to this Slideshow and then Embed album from the right side bar

Set the options you want for your slideshow.
The alternatives explained in detail in How to make a slideshow of from Picasa-web-albums

Copy the HTML code that is provided
If you can't fix it with a hammer... you got an electrical problem
even duct tape can't fix stupid.... but it can muffle it (SilentObserver)
