Prontor SV self timer snafu...

Post by scott »

Hi all -

I have a Prontor SV from a Speedex Special R that I've had kinda working for a long time. What's eluding me is the self timer. When the shutter is cocked and the self timer set, on releasing the shutter the timer doesn't do anything, and the shutter trips instantly.

(Sorry for the awful video, and that flickr makes you click to view)

I don't *think* anything looks obviously out of whack, but if anyone sees anything, could you let me know?

If I can't figure this out soon, I'm buttoning it back up as-is, as much as that pains me to do. I want to get the lens collimated, the rangefinder lubed and adjusted, and get a new bellows on order from Sandeha (I like red but Maddie is pressuring me to get the pinkish-burgundy).

Thanks for any thoughts.
Scott

The burgundy is gorgeous. I bought the brown and the bronze and they are great too.

Let me check, I have the Prontro SV repair manual somewhere send me a PM with your email to share

I think one of the hooks either for the delayed action of the shutter is bent. T he gap between the end of the cocking lever and the pin on the main cam should be <=0.2mm. (page 12 of the repair manual)

Have you checked the self timer in both M and X? In one of them it doesn’t work.

You know, Alex, that’s a damn good question. I’ll have to check that when I get home…

I'll be darned!!!
I have a Voigtlander VitoII with the Prontor SV and have never tried that!
There is a yellow dot on the timer with M, and yes the timer skips in M synch

Glad all is fine :)

Copal shutters from that period are basically the same as Prontors but with the self timer locked in one of the positions, you can tell by colors, red in flash sync and red in self timer then it works, if flash sync is in yellow the self timer lever is blocked.
