End of the line for packfilm: Fuji discontinues FP-100C

Post by Captain Slack »

Sad, sad day, but not surprising. And I'd considered converting one of my rollfilm backs to packfilm. Oh, well. :(

Fujifilm will stop making FP-100C.

I got rid of the Polaroid back for my RB67 just in time then. The world is becoming a poorer place all the time...

I agree. Hopefully Impossible or someone might pick up production, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I've got two packs left, dated this month, so I'm glad the weather is getting warmer (as I watch the snow fly outside).

What a bummer!!! These old packfilm Polaroids were some of the only reasons I still shot classic cameras! I've always liked the prints made from this film type. I've never much cared for the SX70/600 type films, and always liked how much cheaper it was to use FP-100C and FP-3000B. Of course, they killed off the B&W stuff a while back, but I always hoped FP-100C would be around for a while longer.

I've fixed up and sold TONS of these old Polaroids over the years. They were easily my favorite vintage cameras. Perhaps someone will buy up Fuji's equipment and produce the film on a smaller, more sustainable scale.

Not dead yet. A few companies are looking into buying the machines and production. New 55 is not one of them but save your empty packs as they may be useful for the new start up. Fuji is entertaining the others but since we can ship things to $ stores even moving production to a place in China may work. Don't give up. Long threads on this and names and #'s on I Shoot Film and Film Photography Podcast.
As for all Fuji Got it from Polaroid .... Shipped to Japan. when Polaroid died and they have 2 sets of machines and the formulas.

Fuji got its stuff from Polaroid? Really? FP-100C was totally different from any color film Polaroid ever made. Plus, they were making the stuff at the same time as Polaroid when they still made packfilm. So I don't think they just "got it" from Polaroid after Polaroid stopped making 669, 667, etc.

In all seriousness, the only classic cameras I still shoot are some old packfilm Polaroids (an Automatic 100 modded with a Zeiss finder from a 250, and a 440) and a few 1930s-1960s Argus cameras. Oh well, I've still got some B&W 35mm film for the Argus fleet. Of course, they killed off my favorite film, Plus-X, several years ago as well...

LOL. Fewer and fewer options every year!!!
