Re: AGFA Ambi Silette (1957-8)

It's a good simple design though complicated by the fact they used the same body shell from the older Silette cameras. It's never really cut-and-dry with the German manufacturers when it comes to the internal mechanicals.

Re: Camera Porn Friday

Good old Bayer grease, always gumming up the works on an Agfa. But then I don't think they ever planned on the cameras not being serviced in 50 years.

Re: Camera Porn Friday

That Mercury is an interesting camera. I like the exposure computer in the back. The only problem with it is the older my eyes get, the harder it is to use it. It is however the most accurate Sunny-16 scale metering gauge I've ever seen. Someone should market a copy of it for all of us die-hard old...

Happy belated birthday, and thanks for restoring this wonderful tradition! I think it was Les who stated this?
Thank you, Santiago! I believe you're right about Les Geddiman beginning the Birthday Photo thread. He always did such a good job at it too.

Re: Camera Porn Friday

Here is a camera I spent numerous hours on getting it back into working and cosmetic condition, the Univex Mercury II. Half-frame 35mm (65 frames on a 36-exposure roll) with the Universal 35mm 1:2.7 Tricor lens sporting a push-on Kodak Series V adapter ring 1 1/16" (27mm) with a Series V-A hood...

Re: Old traditions are hard to forget

Thanks, Graham and Alex! There used to be a thread about birthday pics, but I couldn't find it.

Re: Camera Porn Friday

As a repairman I have to say this is the most fixed SLR here in Spain, so far 3. Weak point is on plastic lever that should catch the mirror/curtains down. On the user side, very easy camera to use and great lenses, Zeiss or Yashica ones. Congrats, Phil! :) I actually have two of these as on the fi...
