Re: The Retina IIIS
Hmm very interesting comments, thanks for those. I think I'll give it a serious try if I can find one that works well that doesn't break the bank. The lenses are part of the appeal for me. Nice maritime shots above too from Julio.

The Retina IIIS
Has anyone used a Retina IIIS? I saw one a few years ago and I was actually surprised by its apparent quality. Photos from its lenses as seen on Flickr look pretty nice too. I've been thinking of trying to build a IIIS kit lately.

Re: I'm still around
Phil nice to see you here. I think you were a member of the Nelson forum if I recall correctly. I had a prostate cancer scare this year too - looks negative for now. Those biopsies are not fun. Hang in there.

Beautiful camera - congrats. The F still rules in the Nikon world in my view.

Re: Canonet QL17
Nice shots. They will deliver fine color images as well. Of the few compact 35mm fixed lens rangeinders I've used, The QL-17 always struck me as the most desirable: Very good optics, fairly wide field of view, fairly fast, compact, manual operation, and nicely made. Prices for them seem to be going ...

Re: Leica's 100th Anniversary kits
An awesome set for those with the money. It's simply too valuable a collectible to do anything with it, but keep it in a glass case on display however.

Re: Yashica Penta J Camera Test
I had one of these once a long time ago - can't remember how I got it, but I probably should have kept it. It is really a rugged all-mechanical beast. The controls sort of reminded me of rangefinder bodies of that era, less refined (in a sense that would appeal to the masses) than later model SLR's,...

Re: A few from the Contax IIa
Nice shots. I've also had Contax frame counter problems - seems to be a weakness of that design, as is rangefinder vertical misalignment (there are a few annoyance issues with Contax bodies). The Zeiss Contax lenses are really quite amazing, and fully deserving of their reputation - the Germans seem...
