Re: The Isolette 3 goes West

Re: Ghosts of the past 3 Addendum

In 1962 my parents purchased land and built a house in Craighall, which had become a suburb on the outskirts of northern Johannesburg. The remains of the foundations of my great-grandfather's house and dairy were nearby, a short hike away through the veld. My father had no knowledge of his grandfath...

Ghosts of the past 3

While sorting through a box of old family photographs, I came across some photos of my paternal grandfather, Giovanni Junior. We called him "Big John" because he was a big man with a big Roman nose. He married my grandmother, Ethel Dennis in London in 1912. He was an automobile salesman an...

My Bucket List car 2

Went rideabout yesterday. To the "farm shop" near Sandy and then to the Shuttleworth estate where we were hoping for a nice cream tea - no such luck. Only a self service style cafe' with pre-packages stale sandwiches and no alcohol, so I couldn't even have a shandy. But His Grace (that's w...

The end of the season

Our garden is coming to the end of it's "colourful" season. These are some images taken last weekend with my Nikon D7100 and AFS Nikkor 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6G II. Old fashioned now, but so am I. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53119758022_1a4815dbbc_o.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/655...

Re: Westgate, Winchester, Hampshire, England

Beautiful yellows and grey stone. I was looking at the two coat-of-arms (?) at the top and those funny heads around them. There must be some meaning to them. Julio, the arms are those of King Henry III and his wife Queen Eleanor. The heads or "likenesses" in the stone facade are those of ...
