Voigtlander Perkeo 3x4

Hi all,

Another Voigtlander, 16 photos on 127film, format 3x4. More knobs to the collection
I kept looking for this exact model (tubular viewfinder and small cute "leg") the last months, I got it at the same time the big Inos II from the same dealer in UK.

A little service on the shutter it runs without any defect, 1/300 is 1/280!!
Photos as usual with old Skopar style, a friend gave me one Ilford HP5 127film. Nothing to complain at all, great small camera, fun to shoot with, handling is easy.

I shot a series of teacher on duty during playtime, I thought it was going to be "teachers having cold" but finally it became to "teachers having fun".

I rarely shoot 127 and I have two cameras already and they are gorgeous

A fine classic and excellent portraits, Alex.

IMHO 127 format got caught in the middle between 120 and 35mm. There are a few excellent 127 cameras (your Perkeo is one, there are a few Zeiss folders, and also the 4x4 TLRs by Yashica and Rollei in a quick list).

I wish that 127 films were as available as 120 and for similar prices. I may be wrong, but my memory is that 127 was never a cheap format, even back in the 1960s it cost the same or more than 120.

I keep asking myself why 127 film was not successful. My guess is many cameras have not rangefinder comparing to the 35mm ones for rectangular format and for square you had many TLR's already against the few 127 film had as something 'cute'.
The interesting format from 127 for me is the 4x6.5cm really nice proportion and one day I would like to have the Exakta VP, no external rangefinder or guessing needed

From what I remember of 127 its main use was for "Super-Slides" with a larger image area in the same size holder as 35mm film. Easily damaged, and unachievable film flatness kind of doomed them from the start. Being an in between size didn't help as you couldn't easily convert an existing platform to the format thus driving up the camera design and manufacturing costs.
