Old Tools...

Hi all -

Got the 180/4.5 Xenar mounted on the new board Maddie printed for me, and decided to try it out yesterday. Shot an old brace and tenon cutter I had for chairmaking. Shot one at f/5.6, one at f/22. I'm not sure which (if either) I prefer on this.

I’d vote for f22. Tones are nice in both. I like to see the light reflecting on the handle in focus, for some reason.

I am completely innocent of LF. Would one be able to get the whole tool in focus by using movements and a small aperture?

For me the f/22 works well. Or even a bit more DOF...? Nice still-life though.

I'll go with the f22 version also. There's just something upsetting to my eye about the f5.6 version.

Thanks for the input guys. I think there's some further experimenting to do. Part of the reason on the f/5.6 version was that I was trying out my new-to-me 180/4.5 Xenar, and wanted to see what it did close to open. Next time I'll likely use something newer. And play around with the composition a bit.
