The scans from the lab didn’t come out very good as the negatives were pretty dense. And the only colors remaining were pinks and oranges. So I converted the images into B&W using Photo Shop Elements 10, then I adjusted them some more to get a decent result. The original photos aren’t really all that good to start off, with a bit of shake and focus blur (these examples are only the best ones), and lots of grain. But the subject matter is good, and with a little judicious cropping they turned out decent.
The first one is a composite of the changes made. Upper Left is the original scan. Upper Right is after running it through the Smart Fix. Lower Left is after converting to B&W using the Vivid Landscape filter. And Lower Right is after setting the Lighten Shadows to 0, Darken Highlights to 10, and Contrast to +25. I think. I can’t find the note where I wrote all that down. Anyway, all the rest had similar corrections made to them.
