ISTR the gold/brown staining is down to the bleach (there was a thread on APUG). How long between the two attempts, or did you mix fresh bleach each time? What temperature was the bleach? I had one for a short time, i put a SR44 battery with a rubber band and it was within 1/2 stop in the center of the metering range.
