One of the higher-priced point & shoots was the Rollei 35 QZ series. There were two cameras: T for telephoto and W for wide angle.
After much searching, I found a very nice 35T model. It had instructions in Korean, which were of no use to me. The camera was mostly intuitive, but even so, I found a set of English-language instructions.
I think this is one of the nicer cameras. The Vario-Apogon zoom lens is moderate wide-angle (38mm) to moderate telephoto (90mm) and uses Rollei's patented HFT lens coating process.
The camera was designed by F.A. Porsche and had some very high-end features. A relative fast f/2.8 lens at the wide end and f/5.6 at the telephoto end. Typically, P&S cameras start at about f/5.6-8 at the wide end .
There is some distortion and a bit of vignetting at the wide end - - but only with transparency film. I think this camera sold more than U$1,500 when new.
The flash is "mash potato" style and detaches from the camera. That way, you never have to worry about turning off the flash when you don't want it.
I've thought off and on about getting the "W" model, but I have other more pressing things. These cameras are still absurdly expensive.
