Prime V Zoom FOV comparison

Post by GrahamS »

This series of images compares the angle of view of Nikon prime lenses with the Nikkor 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 G ED VR set to the equivalent focal length according to the markings on the zoom ring. All are made at F8 and are from the RAW files. The most marked difference is between the 24mm Ai Nikkor and the 24-85 set to 24mm. Ignore the EXIF data of the 24mm prime as I did not set the camera register, which only effects JPG images.

Nikkor 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 G ED VR at 50mm

I have had to open a new bottle of vodka......

Hmmm...the 35mm prime has a wider view than the zoom, while the 50 and 24 primes have narrower views. Very interesting.

That’s the level of vodka left in the bottle after every picture :)
