More from my monochrome archive

Often simply written as "W/NW" - your favorite photos. Explain them, or let your photos (film or digital) speak for themselves.

More from my monochrome archive

Post by GrahamS »

Way back when God was a boy, and I was a hypo junky, I used a Zenza Bronica with a 75mm Nikkor-P f2.8 lens, to document the world around me. I mainly used Kodak Verichrome Pan film rated at ASA 125 or Kodak Tri-X rated at ASA 400, processed in D76. I have been spending lockdown time copying some of my archive of 6x6 mono negatives to digital files, using my Nikon D700 and Micro-Nikkor 55mm f2.8 lens. These are some of the images, taken long, long ago.

Very nice setup and most interesting photos, worthy to take a look.
My favorite the one with the horses.

Excellent! digitizing with a camera is much easier and fun!
Your result are very good, lovely time-pieces

Graham - I really enjoyed these shots. The one thing that you get from medium (and large) format is the richness of tones. Those are excellent. I particularly like the "Herd boys" and the "District six house."

I'm glad you all enjoyed this post. I don'y know about the fun part of digitising, it can be a frustrating chore! Mike, MF always wins - you can always tell a MF image against anything digital in origin - don't know quite why. It's like listening to a CD and comparing it to a vinyl disc. Vinyl always wins.

Great shots and an inspiring setup. Please keep them coming!

I need something similar for some very old but interesting 122 negs that I have around. Must look for a LCD panel.

Julio, beware some LCD panels are not suitable as they are not even enough. The individual LCD's are visible. My one is made in Germany.

Thanks for the information. I will try first with an iPad showing white. Must improvise a holder for the huge negs!

I tried with IPad myself, maybe it was old version when I tried or the setup was bad... I could see the illuminated pixels, white light was not homogeneous.

Alex is correct, Julio. An iPad won't crack it.
