Shipping a lens to Europe

Post by titrisol »

Hi all,
I'm trying to ship a lens (Sonnar 5cm.1,5) to Europe for a review to be made in a digital camera
This comes basically because the one I have is rare.

Now, how do you ship to/from Europe whn something is "on loan" without having to buy an ATA carner ($350+) or paying import duties?

ANy experiences?

If you can't fix it with a hammer... you got an electrical problem
even duct tape can't fix stupid.... but it can muffle it (SilentObserver)

I don't know if postal authorities make exemptions or allowances. This could work if you had someone who was making the trip and could take it with them in their luggage or in a carry-on bag.

I wouldn’t declare its value, that’s all.
When a friend was going to receive a Makina 67 serviced in USA he addressed to me, the repairman stated the value as 325$ (The repair cost) and I had to pay small amount of taxes. All it’s with the declared value.

You'd have to consult with your local post office to see how it is done, but you at least have to declare it is not a sold item, maybe saying it is going for repair.
