Mamiya M645 acquisition

Post by PFMcFarland »

I wasn't really looking for something else to add to the mix, especially since I have a nice couple of folders in 4.5x6, but after seeing this in the last remaining camera shop within 100 miles of here I couldn't pass it up.

Traded in a box full of p&s cameras for it. They'll sell just fine to the college crowd that frequents the shop.

If you can't fix it with a hammer... you got an electrical problem
even duct tape can't fix stupid.... but it can muffle it (SilentObserver)

Excellent trade! I have been looking for a MF SLR for some time, but still not enough room for a new system. Look forward to your posts from this one.

Congrats! Nice trade!

I had once this camera, I shot a roll and images are excellent quality.
Looking forward to see your photos with the camera.

Thanks, all. I'll have to wait a while on the fun part as the foam inside the lens chamber is really coming apart. Ordered some caps, lens hood, and a seal kit today. I've got plenty to keep me busy though sorting through and consolidating the rest of my camera gear, plus coming to terms with reducing the accumulation around here.

Oh yeah - in the late 1970s, Mamiya advertised this model heavily at 35mm shooters, pointing out the larger negative. I almost bought one.

Are there any known issues with the Mamiya 645?

Yeah, it's bigger and heavier than it looks! Can't say as I've found anything online about faults with the M645 First Gen. Some issues with the prisms exist, such as foam backing deterioration ruining the silvering. This one has a line in it that I've noticed in close-up photos of others like it. I need to read up on the PD metered prism to see if it has any faults before I buy one.
