Help me identify this "duck"

Help me identify this "duck" seen yesterday hanging out with some other water birds in a parking lot near the Charles River in Waltham, Massachusetts. I think it is a duck, but the size is more like that of a goose. It might even be some domesticated fowl. I did not bother to chase it to see if it could fly. The weather was rainy and harsh, not great for picture taking. Any ideas?

It certainly is an oddball, James. I think it's either a hybrid, or just a strangely colored mallard.

I was thinking that maybe it was lost on the way to somewhere else. Went back to the same area today and there was no sight of him. The dark green cap is mallard-ish.

The patterns in the feathers don't match anything world-wide. It could be quite lonely if the other ducks don't want to associate with it.

This may be it. Duclair domestic duck, originally from France. The one I saw may have escaped from captivity or was released by someone who tired of his presence. See the picture in this link:
