Nikon F, seaside walk with 35mm lens

Post by Julio1fer »

Finished the roll loaded into the new (to me) Nikon F cassette. It unloaded well, but I need to further rotate the inner casing after taking it out of the camera, in order to get it to click home. It seems that the rotation given by the open/close key in the bottom of the removable back was not enough this time. Next time will try unloading in a changing bag!

Fortunately no great light leaks, although a couple of frames were affected. Most of the HP5+ roll came out well, after developing in home-mixed D76 1:1.

I shot the whole roll with the convenient 35/2.8, a lens that I have not used very much in recent times.

Of course, the camera picture!

That's a nice looking classic Nikon. What were the challenges with the reloadable cassettes? I ask since I've seen these pop up on occasion on our local auction site.

Nice to see some of you local neighbourhood again. Is your new place near your old one?

Thanks P C! No big challenges with the reloadable Nikon cassettes, just that I am learning to use them. These are tailored to the Nikon F, and do not fit in other Nikon SLRs.

So far:

(1) I use a Lloyds bulk loader, and its crank does not fit these cassettes (crank slot is too narrow). I use instead a rewind crank taken from a busted Kiev 35 (crank is needed for counting turns) and load inside a changing bag.

(2) The cassette should close fully (two clicks) when the opening key in the bottom of the camera rotates to the open position. For some reason the movement was not completed, the angle turned was not enough to safe click the cassette. Must work this again to understand what happened. It may well be operating error on my side.

Once loaded and into the camera, the cassette works beautifully, very smooth. With 36 frames it becomes a bit tight, but no scratches at all.

I moved close to where I lived before, therefore the same subjects are still available.
