Minolta Himatic G2

My latest flea market find! Not sure it's ever been used.

I thought it was a rangefinder, but didn't realize it was a scale focus until I got it home. Oh, well. For only $8, I can't complain too much.

Comes with the box, manual, case, and an empty battery package. Apparently, it also came with the Yashica flash I didn't get that the seller had on their table, as the manual was in box as well. Oops!

I put a LR44 battery in the compartment, but I can't get the meter to activate. It's designed for a 1.35V mercury battery, so maybe the 1.5V modern equivalent is too strong? Or maybe there's a meter problem? May have to remove the bottom plate and get out my multimeter. If I can't get it working, it's basically a shelf queen as there's no way to set the shutter speed manually.

I picked up the same model in a similar way. It came with an Energizer 357 installed with slight packing around it. The meter reacts in this setup, but I haven't taken any pictures with it yet. I should test it out because it looks quite neat and convenient. Or if a 625 is recommended (I don't have a manual) I could try it with the MR-9 adapter I do have.

Possibly just that the battery contacts need cleaning after all these years. After a while, using a scale focus camera isn't so bad, except when you want to take a quick shot of something where you don't have time to guess distance and pre-focus. Just hope that the depth of field was good. It will be a good camera for landscapes (everything at infinity!). Here's what the Yashica equivalent can do (35 ME). https://flic.kr/s/aHsjsyokyv

I'm getting better at scale focus thanks to my Isolette II. Still not my preferred method. Apparently, I suck at guessing distances.
