Kodak Medalist

I read the following in the description of one of these currently on auction at ShopGoodwill.

"camera is very heavy for its size"

I've read about them before, but have never seen one in person; looks like quite a beast.

Yes, they are heavy, but then you have to realize the folks writing those descriptions don't usually know much about the product. I've handled one, and it's not much more weightier than a Nikon F.

It's a very thick camera, front to back. And combined with the curved front, I found it difficult to shoot. I think that I refer to it informally as "The Incredible Bulk."

The lens supposedly is excellent, but I didn't enjoy using the camera. But we all have our likes and dislikes.

Looks to me like a "tripod camera"; not something that you'd be snapping away with hand held.

That huge, exposed helical is what gets me.

I would buy it at the price it is going. They fetch a lot more.

To lubricate the helical, I had read somewhere (don't remember where) that you had to drip a small amount of a specific type of oil onto the double-helical and then wipe off the excess.

That's a good price - even for a Medalist I.

That medalist, mine's a 'II', is a heavy camera. But I like using it, & enjoy it's company. I got it several months ago & I'm still experimenting & learning about it. I reroll 120 onto a 620 spool, easy to do. Using Ilford FP4+ film. Here are some test shots.
