Let's share a pretty day

Post by Dennis Gallus »

Today is a beautiful day here in southern Arizona. My bride and I took a hike up Carr Canyon, about 10 miles from home.

I had not visited the ruins in Carr Canyon for more than three years. They remain relatively undisturbed.

The patio of the Todd House must have been marvelous in its day. Only a fireplace remains.

Looking to the back of the patio, away from the fireplace, one sees the view that the builder had in mind when he built the place.

Carr Falls is in the left side of the picture, but is dry this time of year.

I hope that you all enjoyed a similarly pretty day. Do you have any pictures to show?

Thanks for viewing,
Dennis

I am green with envy on what you have in your "back yard." I am struck by the different hue of the sky in numbers 1 and 4 vs. 2 and 3. Love the clouds in number 4 especially. What a country!

A beautiful day indeed, and very nice landscapes to go with it. What a backyard, looking at that vista every day. Must be very hard!

Those clouds were wonderful, too.

I would say that hiking 10 miles, even in such a a nice day, takes a toll. So, thanks for sharing these!

A nice tour, Dennis! What was the era of the Todd house?

Hello, Robert,

The Todd family occupied the place from 1887 to around 1936, when it was sold to the Healy family. The Apaches weren't pacified in this area until around 1887-88, so the Todds were adventuresome to say the least. I'd have to guess that the patio might have been built between 1900 and 1925. The Healy family continued to build out after they assumed possession, and most of the ruins are of structures that they built. The buildings were electrified, and very solid.

This plaque contains some of the info:

The plaque photo also shows the pincushion distortion in my zoom at about 35mm.

James, I noticed the sky color difference too. I did not do any post-processing (other than cropping one photo and adding a little sharpening), so I can only say that sun angle was responsible for the difference.

Thanks to you both for your comments.
Dennis

So it fell apart since 1972? Or was in bad shape by then? Just curious.

I lived in Arizona from 1969-1974. Have fond memories of it, except for the summers. Man, I don't miss the summers.

Beautiful shots Dennis! As has been said, I would love to have that within walking distance from home.
