This is Cotopaxipungo, an amazing "hosteria" high up in the Andes....
Unfortunately, the weather kept being cloudy and Cotopaxi didn't show :(

Beautiful! Please post something of the historic central area of Quito, the best in the Andean region!

One thing I like about shooting when there are clouds like that is the way the shadows play along the ridgelines. We can't control the weather, but can take advantage of what comes from it. Cotopaxi looks fine, Pablo, with its wreath of clouds.

What an interesting series from somewhere we don't usually get to see.

How did you cope with the altitude of Quito (assuming you're not back there that often)?

Thanks for the kind comments,
I'm back in Quito today. I was born here, and yes you have to be careful the 1st day or 3
Drink lots of fluids, eat light, and try not to exert yourself too much.

Cotopaxipungo is a "hosteria" that is at 3,500m and it used to be an 'hacienda' run by the Jesuits that was sold in pieces years ago.
That is a really beautiful place, I was there with my mother and could not hike to the cascades of the Pita river which are close by (Condor Machay and Gemelas) but managed to hive up to 3,800 to the wonderful paramo region in which polilepis are abundant

I went then to Guayaquil for business and only had a few minutes to walk around the center, and visit the place where my father worked in 1979-80 when I lived in that town
In the plane ride back I saw those beautiful sights, but I only have a small camera which does not do very good taking pictures thru the plexiglass and the clouds, most of them look bluish but I managed to coerce a couple out.

I'm back in Quito, at the mercy of the american consulate (i.e. waiting for my passport to be returned with a new visa stamped) and monday is a national holiday so I may have a few more pics
