My hosting contract is up, and I'm going to move everything to a different hosting platform (same company) that provides more services.
I think the changeover will occur this week, and I'll post a notice soon. At some point, the site might be entirely inaccessible, but hopefully the outage will only be a few hours.
I'll post more information once I speak to the web host.
Moving to a new server
Re: Moving to a new server
I expect to move the site to a new server within the next two weeks. I'll post a message when this happens.
THE BENEFITS
• Lower annual cost. Currently, I'm paying to host this site, my wife's site and my original elem.net site. Everything will now be under one hosting contract.
• Server storage space. The new hosting package includes unlimited storage space vs. 5GB for the current one. While 5GB seems like a lot, I was expecting we would hit server capacity within two years. That will no longer be a concern. Plus, we're going to build a better photo upload tool.
• Speed. After migrating two of the sites to the new package, I think it's faster. Page load time on the forum already is very good, so we won't see much improvement there. However, for my next project (which uses Drupal), it should be much improved. I know that WordPress can do a lot, but Drupal really offers the features that I want and need at this time.
THE DRAWBACK
Something catastrophic involving the database. I'll have file backups, however.
