The Hague

Post by Julio1fer »

Stayed 3 days in The Hague, Netherlands, for a conference and took the Canon G12 along. The city is of a nice handy size, flat and tidy. Bikes everywhere, the place looks a lot like Germany but it is more relaxed.

City center, somebody famous was going to appear on TV.

with swans on a lake, I caught this one in the act.

Tricky, tempting, closed door.

Surprising colors in the commercial area.

Museums are the high point of this city. I am a long time fan of Maurice Escher, so I was thrilled to visit a dedicated museum.

The city museum (Gemeente Museum) is dedicated to modern and contemporary art, including a Klimt special.

Another excellent museum - Maurithuis, dedicated to the old Flemish masters, who knew a thing or two about painting with light. Their portraits would put to shame modern optics.

I had little expectations for this trip, and the city really surprised me. It looks like a very livable place if you like overcast skies.

I always hated going to some conference, then not having time to look around. Glad that you made the best of your opportunity with some good photos.

Thanks, PF. I had five hours to look around including the museums. A lot of interesting things had to be left out (for instance an automobile museum that was far from the city center). It takes some planning, but with GPS and pre-downloaded maps in the phone, blitz tourism is becoming easier.

I would recommend especially the OsmAnd map application, at least for this city.
