The return of my favorite Flickr feature

If you need to unleash a rant or just have something that you want to say, you can post it here. It doesn't have to be about photography.

The return of my favorite Flickr feature

Post by PFMcFarland »

Notes is back!

The one thing I've missed from Flickr that was eliminated in one of the big rebuilds of the site was the Notes feature, where I could outline something in one of my photos (like details of camera parts), and leave a description augmenting the regular description box on the page below the photo.

And the really good thing about it is that all my old notes are still there, all you have to do is hover your mouse cursor over the photo to see them. But because Notes is a mouse-based system, Flickr is unable to bring it to the mobile (phone) platform, so it doesn't work on touch-screen technology.

I was so happy, the first thing I did was annotate some of the photos from my latest camera test. It still works the same way as before.

I had notes on some of my camera pictures too. I can see some of them again now, but couldn't at first see how to add new ones; only persisted in trying because you said you'd been adding them! Got it now. I can't see the notes on some of the pictures I remember putting them on; I suspect I may have deleted them myself, in disgust when the feature was withdrawn (though just how I did that is another question). Thanks for the heads-up!

Phil, I'm glad to hear this too. Notes were a useful feature, lo, these many years ago!

But I cannot see the Notes feature in my own account, though I see notes are mentioned near the bottom of each photo's page as something you can lock down or allow others to add.

I thought it might have been just Firefox but I tried Pale Moon and Microsoft Edge to see if they were different and still no sign of it. Is there a trick to getting it?

Philip

Or forget my query! I just discovered that it piggybacks on the +/- function.

Well, I'll be darned! It works for me, too. :)

The way I found out about it was I dozed off with my finger on the mouse button, and when I woke up, there was a Notes box on the picture. :o

Thanks for the head-up on this. I do not use Flickr very much but it is nice to have the notes again.
