Minolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 and Vuescan

Post by GrahamS »

I bought Hamrick Vuescan Pro back in 2009 when there were no other drivers for the Minolta scanner. I haven't done any scanning in a long while and when I bought Vuescan Pro, lifetime updates were included in the price. I have installed my Vuescan Pro 8.5.01 on the iMac running OS-X 10.11.5. It is unstable and regularly quits unexpectedly, usually when I click the "scan" button. I have tried to download the latest version of Vuescan. The Hamrick website says that my product key will be automatically recognised and the updated version will be automatically activated. This doesn't happen. I can't find the old e-mail with my original product key. I have e-mailed Hamrick three times in a month asking for help, and attaching a copy of their purchase receipt but I don't receive any reply although my e-mails don't bounce back.

Does anyone else have any experience with Hamrick? Are they defunct? Any advice?

Graham,
I continue to have good success with Vuescan and, like you, purchased the Pro version some years ago. Although I have not needed to contact them, they continue to issue new releases which work fine when downloaded on my PowerMac 10.11.5. Their site is regularly updated, so I don't think they are defunct. Of course, they should have gotten back with you.

Have you tried deleting the pref file for Vuescan? Restart it and a new pref file will be created - but then you knew that. It sounds like something has gone wonky with a file somewhere and pref files are likely suspects. Good luck!

PS I just found this link. Perhaps it will help. https://www.hamrick.com/rep.html
