Some of you will remember William "Bill" Gibson ("Canuckshutterer") from the Nelsonfoto days, as well as from Flickr and perhaps his blog, too. His pictures of life at the edge of Georgian Bay, in Lake Superior, were rich with his own sense of home, and the local community of heritage preservers, historians, and poets like himself. Bill had been under dialysis treatment for several years, documenting his trips to the regional hospital with photographs, latterly on his Flickr page. Late last summer, he had a kidney transplant but it was not a long-term success. He was back and forth to hospital all fall and winter. I just found out this morning that he died in hospital three weeks ago, on March 7th. There is an obituary at http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/thesta ... =184441265
Here is an old photo of Bill, on his Flickr page:
And here is the last self-portrait he posted:

Re: Bill Gibson is dead
Oh wow. That's sad to hear about his passing. I guess I remember him as "William J. Gibson."
I just read his obit, and it was very impressive that he studied with Marshall McLuhan.
His final self-portrait is revealing, I think.

Oh man, that is sad. God's speed Bill.
If we all saw the world the same no one would need a camera.
