What is THIS?

Post by scott »

Hi all -

Developed this roll today, and the whole thing looks like it has leprosy:

Imageimg128 by Scott, on Flickr

Film was TMax 100, developed in HC-110 dil H, 12:00 at 20C. My usual routine, which has remained unchanged for years - fill (daylight tank - used 700 mL of developer), tap on the counter, four rotations every three minutes. Two rinses (I've never used stop bath), fix with frequent agitation for seven minutes. Wash a ton, final rinse in distilled. I've never seen this sort of speckling before. I'm sure it was an issue with developing, but any pointers on what?

Thanks,
Scott

Scott, is your fixer old? I might suspect this, because perhaps undeveloped silver particles resettled on the wet emulsion.

I'm just making a guess here.

I'd have made the same guess as Mike. I suspect that if you mixed up fresh chemistry, and cleaned out your reels and tank thoroughly, the next batch would be fine. Frustrating not to know for sure, though.

Are you using filtered water? If it is not the fixer, water could be a suspect.

Thanks guy. The fixer isn't fresh, but I've used much older in the past. There seems to be some particulate in it though, so I'll mix up new. I've never used filtered water so I don't think that's an issue.

Everything is probably due a cleaning as well. Still need to run some film through the Y-mat, so that will be my developing test, I suppose.

Thanks,
Scott
