The southern portion of my old work territory started at one of the high points of the Norfolk Southern Shenandoah Line that runs from Roanoke, VA to Hagerstown, MD.

It's mostly small towns, sometimes only a place name with no houses. We had to do a lot of Hi-Railing to get from one location to another, and there are many trestles and plate girder bridges to cross.

On this particular day, I decided to go north through the valley east of the Shenandoah Line, then cross the Blue Ridge at Thorton Gap, descending into Luray, VA. The weather turned stormy on the way up, but after crossing the ridge it cleared up quite nicely.
