Orchid...

When medium format isn't big enough: 4x5, 5x7, 9x12, 8x10 and even larger.

Orchid...

Post by scott »

Hi All -

My daughter has an affinity for houseplants from Lowes. Picked this up recently. Some kind of orchid, no idea what though.

Really having fun with the occasional large format shot. 4x5 Arista in HC-110 dil H, Fujinon 125/5.6. Between the 16" of draw and the ridiculous reciprocity of Arista film, made for a LONG exposure. Sent my wife and daughter downstairs until the shot was done.

Thanks for looking.
Scott

I like the focus points on the petals and the central (?) stem. At that distance with f/5.6 the focus plane must be thin!

When I was a kid, the only orchids I knew about were the ones people wore for special occasions. I had no idea most of them are fairly small until I started seeing photos of them on Flickr. You captured these well, Scott.

It's a Phalaenopsis. Helps that I worked at a nursery in SW Florida years ago. One of the easier orchids to grow.
