Back from back home

Post by PFMcFarland »

I went home to Indiana for the Thanksgiving holiday, and managed to sneak in some photo taking time with the Nikon D300s, and DX AF-S Nikkor 18-105mm.

I’ll be posting these in five groups over the next few days.

Looks like a lot of changes. Gentrification?

Not unless you want to buy a court house, James. It has needed some work on the limestone trim, clock, and bell tower for some time, so it's good to see the county finally putting up the money to do so.

Wilder House

Built by Gen. John T. Wilder in 1865-66, it stands as a testament to good construction being well kept.

Barn Complex

A complex of barns and other structures mark what remains of an old family run farm that has likely been sold to developers, and the land is leased until some other use is found for it. Its closeness to the new Honda plant in Greensburg, IN means there could be some parts factory standing here someday.

"Barn Complex" is a great composition, Phil, very pleasing to the eye. I like the balance between the distant barn on the right and the little red-roofed shed behind the main barn. Well done!

Thanks, James. I walked back and forth along the fence line before settling on this view.

Indiana Skies

If nothing else, Indiana has some wide open views of the sky, especially in farming country where the fields are large, and the trees are few. Harvest time adds its own spectacle when the dust in the air turns the setting sunlight into shades of russet, gold, and orange.

If the clouds are cutting down the light, then I take their photo just to show them who’s who.

Edge lighting to make the clouds glow, adding some dust for color, sunsets during harvest are always interesting.

Timing. Is. Everything. Not many times have I stopped by this monument to find all the flags flying in a stiff breeze, and to get the moon aligned too? Perfect. Now if they would just fix that center pole.

As the sun leaves us for another night, it will be my last Indiana sunset for a while.
