Leica IIIa test + Three lenses test

Hello,

The outside pics are done at -15 Celsius degrees, grease from the curtains receivers thickened and slowed the operation, thats why the black band (I guess). The lens is that 2,8cm/f8 Tessar I found.
Inside focused pics are done with Elmar 50mm/3.5 uncoated.
Inside no focused pic is done with a Tessar 40mm/2.8 from Tenax II adapted to LTM mount.








Some conclusions:
- Keep the Leica inside the coat to keep her warm.
- I like the Elmar, even being uncoated and my first roll with it I like how it performs.
- The 2.8cm works fine for me, or anyone can tell me something different? Sure you can, your eyes have seen more pics than me
- Still more tests to do with the Tessar 40mm on the LTM, was my fault or its not correctly collimated?

Alex, what film/developer did you use?

The 2.8 cm looks fine. Indeed that dark band looks like it comes from the curtain movement.

With the 40mm, you got sharp focus on the window at right. Maybe check scale distances vs. RF focus? The RF cam in the lens might need help.

My Canon P shutter did the same thing when it was cold outside. It had been setting in a drawer for over 20 years before I got it. I really like your portraiture work. That Tessar may not have the rangefinder cam fitted correctly. It could be too short, or too long, or a shim was left out while it was being modified. Hard to check that on a Barnack body, would be easier to do on an M series. I guess it's time to break out the tape measure again.

Alex, what film/developer did you use?

Film is Kodak T-Max 100, it was a risky bet when I put it because it was cloudy that day.
Developer, I will find out, shame one me I don't do it myslef, when I get a scanner I will start with developing questions to you all.

Julio and Phil, yes, next test is measuring the corridor again and do several pictures. As Julio said just a little back from the subject the pic is sharp, worth to try scale focus with the scale at the lens and not from the RF as I did.

Phil, I appreciate your comment about my portrait work, thx a lot, but I feel I just do click and nothing more, my thinking is that all of them make the portraits great.
My wife says for portraits the subject has to be relaxed and natural in front of the camera or person with camera so the real person comes out, the thing I want when I do portraits is I wait until the person smiles (but with his/her eyes). Normally if its 135 film I take two pics, if its 120 only one.

The real challenge will come the day I do a good portrait of an unknown person.
