Maybe Mike would be willing to take over making the monthly payments using contributed funds. Mike?
Mike is on it, James. I sent him the contact information I have for QWK.net

It would be cool to see Nelsonfoto go up for a few months more. I know there are several threads of mine I'd re-post here, and it would be a shame to see all of the camera repair info, found film presentations, etc. all disappear. However, I also agree that after this little time window, it's probably good to move on, considering that it appears the admin rights for Nelsonfoto will never get transferred.

I just wrote to the hosting company, and with any luck, Nelsonfoto.com will be back soon. I'll have a longer e-mail this weekend to everyone to explain our plans.

Wish that we could export the data from that forum. That would solve a lot of problems.

I paid the bill, however - and it's a big HOWEVER.

The ongoing costs for the site are not what any of us would be willing to pay.

The database for the forums somehow has grown to 4GB. Craig's contract was for 500MB. The monthly overage charge comes to $358.07.

This amount would be due every month.

The hosting company is going to have their guy go into the database and try to see why it is that large.

There were roughly 19,000 messages on the forum. To put it into perspective, there are 6,800 messages on this forum. The DB for this forum is 32MB.

That means that the Nelsonfoto DB has three times the messages yet is more than 100 times larger. It's likely that the DB is corrupt, but without admin rights, we'll never know why.

It's difficult to say. It could be because of the indexed search terms. Or it might something else entirely.

If we cannot come to a solution that is reasonably priced, I think that it probably is time to let go of Nelsonfoto.com.

Please share your thoughts and opinions about it.

The hosting company just called me, and on the advice of the lawyers, the site will remain offline. The company apologized for taking it offline.

The representative said that if they could get a letter from CE's estate (his family), they would be happy to let us in to export the database.

Without the letter, unfortunately, Nelsonfoto will remain offline - possibly for good.

Does anyone have a name or address for CE's family?

It could be down to the mail. On my own site a huge blast of spam mail took me over the bandwidth limit so I simply got the host company to switch off ALL mail. Problem solved.

Mike it might be best if you add Katlyn as a friend on FB otherwise she might not see your message. Let me know if she doesn't reply to you and I'll contact her. I was in touch with her recently.

I think that with all the attacks that the hacker in the Dominican Republic made, he could have gotten into the site, and made some changes. Either that, or are you sure that they understand the spelling of the site is nelsonfoto, and not nelsonphoto? I had that problem every time I talked to them, Mike, and it always took too much time to get it through their heads they were looking at the wrong site.

Is anyone pursuing this? Via Facebook? Personal contact? I remember some time back that someone from Florida (maybe Rose) said that the daughter may be living there. If we could find a snail mail address, a carefully crafted paper letter might be the best approach. It would have to be emphasized that there is no desire to keep the site going as is, but only to get access to some of the content for preservation purposes.

Sandeha, would you like to give it a shot and contact Katlyn?

Sorry, I was extremely busy this past week and totally out of action.
