Ecuador Earthquake

Post by titrisol »

Last week my country was hit by a big earthquake, and it hit one of the poorest and least attended areas of the country.
I visited that area ofen when I was a child, because my uncle had a beach house a few miles away.
That beautiful city is now 70-80% damaged; and the smaller villages close by have been wiped out.

May I kindly ask you to contribute to the relief funds?

There are several organization to which we can contribute and that we know are working directly in the affected zone (meaning the help will not be detoured or diluted into the pockets of bureaucrats and officials)

1) Samaritan’s Purse http://www.samaritanspurse.org/

2) Caritas.org http://www.caritas.org/take-action/donate/

a. Support caritas(donate)

b. Emergency Response Fund

c. Earthquake in Ecuador.

3) OperationBlessing.com http://operationblessing.com/

4) Indiegogo Water Fundraiser

Thank you all

This is a worthy cause, and I'm going to donate some money.

For those of us who prefer not to give to religious groups, here is a link to UNICEF: http://www.unicef.ca/en/blog/unicef-res ... in-ecuador

Unfortunately Unicef's help gets diluted to nothing. In my previous experience the overhead is too big and most of the money end in the pockets of bureaucrats, officers, and goods end up in posession of those who do not need it

There are other oraniganizations which we have found that help directly

I don't know your source on the inefficiency of UNICEF but, actually, they are among the very best in proportion of donations that make it to the intended site, usually over 90%.

Thank you all for helping the poorest in my country.

This earthquake has shown my country many interesting lessons, that we arenot alone and that we can't pretend to isolate ourselves, and has proven that the civil society can do more than any governmental institution.
