In another thread today, I ranted (again -- I did in 2014, too) against PortraitPro, the software. But I know that several other people here use it so I thought I would try it again.
So I got out a scan from a 120 negative. Here, if it loads properly, is an animated .gif of an original and a PP-ised picture. There are other differences, like background light, spotting out the dust, and changing the colour. And I didn't line them up precisely. But you can see how PP changed things. Nic's chin is massaged inwards by PP; I don't really like that. His eyes were eerily (and sci-fi-ishly) sharp in the PP-ised one, so I resoftened them here. Otherwise it is not bad.
So I recant. Used subtley --as Graham counselled me to do -- PortraitPro can work.

Re: I recant my rant, or parts thereof
Here's a sharper picture taken a moment afterwards. This is, by the way, on well-expired Portra film in my Mamiyaflex, using about one-sixth of the negative. I flipt this image to reflect reality better. And: you can look at this one without risking seizures. . . .
It too is very lightly processed by PortraitPro, along with spotting etc in Paint Shop Pro.
