Québec City

Took a short trip to Québec City with my bride to celebrate our 30th. She's a good sport about my photographic puttering, so I took a bunch of cameras -- the nice thing about driving to a vacation spot rather than flying -- and in and amongst the wandering around managed to find some time to get out the necessary gear and take some large format shots.
I had brought my Intrepid 4x5 with a small selection of lenses, but for reasons not worth describing, I didn't take it on the outing because I would have had to carry three bags in addition to the tripod. So I picked up the tripod with the Travelwide (with the helical-mounted Schneider 90/6.8) already sitting on it and the bag containing the film holders, light meter, etc., and took it out to the old city wall one evening. The viewfinder I was using doesn't correlate exactly to what the lens sees, which is hard to tell with the calibration screen only, so it was a little tricky to get exactly the shots I was looking for. One of these days I'll have to rig a ground glass for it (I have some spare 4x5 ground glasses from the Surplus Shed, but need to rig a mount with the proper T-distance) and get that sorted out.
But I did it, and in the interest of saving poor Scott from being just about the only one here posting LF stuff, I decided to show a couple or three here. Also want to encourage others to do so, and to encourage myself to take some better shots...
This is a pano (roughly 2x5) of the old city wall, ending in the main gate on the Rue Saint-Louis. I meant to use a split dark slide with it (I had one) but struggled to get the framing right so just gave up, used the whole sheet, and cropped it afterward.

Here is the gate seen at the end of the previous shot, along with what I seem to recall was a bust of Gandhi.

The last evening we were there, my wife had suggested I feel free to slip out in the morning and try to catch the morning light (I generally always wake up considerably before she does) and it was such a good idea, I took her up on it. This is the boardwalk under the Château Frontenac, at about 6:30am.

A quick digital shot to show the time of day I was out shooting...
