After taking a load to the dumpster, I went back in and put the DX AF-S 55-300mm 1:4.5-5.6G ED VR lens on the Nikon D80, and went back out to catch some last views of the season. It was weird the way the image in the viewfinder stabilized as the VR kicked in.

This was the Harvest Moon when it was full the other night. Now it looks like the Death Star from Star Wars.

They’ve ruined my view of Fort Lewis Mountain with some more townhouses.

On the window next to our front door. Gets its name from the way the caterpillar phase feeds among the leaf litter on the forest floor with a looping gait.

Showing the brown color, it looks like it is falling into an angry sea.

I have that lens and like it. Compact enough to get through security at Gillette Stadium (as neither the 70-200/2.8 nor the 300/4 would) and still pretty darn decent IQ, as you've shown here. Love the moon shot.

My Best Beloved has the 55-200 version which is also very good. Nice images, Phil.

Nice macros of the moths. The moon picture shows the usefulness of the 300 mm distance. When a tele is really needed, the 300 is more useful than the more conventional 200mm.

Down here we got our first day of Spring yesterday, with a balmy 70 F, but it did not last too much. Today it was back to wind and cold.
