Camera Talk

Well, even though I'm not taking too many pictures doesn't excuse me from the occasional case of GAS. To wit: I just picked up, again, a Konica I rangefinder. Usual problems - shutter's sticking, coverings are bad. But the shutters are fun, and I have the carcass of a Konica I in the garage that can donate a skin. I've been pining for a 35mm rangefinder for a L-O-N-G time, and, well, this may do the trick.

Never say die.

I was into working on these for a while, so it should be fun to play with. Need to figure out a case or a wrist strap - the camera doesn't have lugs. Very basic rangefinder - on-lens shutter release, etc. - but a very capable, razor-sharp lens. I'm looking forward to it, and I think I even still have a hood for it.

Will the shutter accept a standard cable release? Might be fun to make a small half-case for it that incorporates a loop to capture the end of a short release...

Nice. You can always get a wrist strap that fits in the tripod mount.

Sigh....

A quick update: The camera arrived Wednesday, a full day ahead of eBay's estimate. Woot! The shutter was in pretty rough shape, very dirty, and some bent parts. Have it working nicely now, with the occasional hiccup that needs to be worked out. Tonight. The frame counter was DOA, though (NOT mentioned in the eBay ad), but I have another Konica I body (shutter completely dead) that I was able to experiment on, and fixed the good camera. Interesting note: The two bodies are 500 apart. The old one has a Konirapid shutter (no "S" for flash sync, though it has flash sync), but has B and T. The 'good' camera has a Koniarapid-S, but no T. And very close in manufacture. Weird.

Anyway, I hope to have some film in this thing this weekend. Stay tuned...

Manufacturing price points are the usual reason for variations in production. Zeiss built cameras in a bewildering number of combinations.
