Argust 17th is coming!

Thursday, 8-17-17 is Argust Day this year. So grab what ever you have that is labeled Argus (even one of the plastic craptastic models), shoot a roll of film, and post the results in this thread.

The day did not start out well. I had spent the previous afternoon cleaning my three Lithagon lenses for the C4-Geiss (35mm, 100mm, and 135mm), and when I went to test the camera in the morning, the shutter broke/jammed after one actuation.

I didn’t want to use the C44, since I don’t care for the 35mm from that kit, and wanting to keep things rangefinder I settled on using the C3.

Now I’ve got around eight to ten of these things around here in various states of condition, The one I usually use also decided to break the shutter while I was getting it ready, so I grabbed the next one I could find. It has a rangefinder that is out of whack.

Third time was the trick after taking my Matchmatic off display duty. All I had to do was put the spacer on the accessory shoe so I could mount my Nikon Varizoom finder, and I was good to go.

Most of the photos were taken with the Sandmar 35mm 1:4.5, with a few captured using the Soligor 135mm 1:4.5. The Sandmar is passable, but the Soligor is a gem.

Now if I can ever keep from making unintentional multi-exposures…

Another nice series, PF. I have a Brick but do not use it. Too many cameras, too little time. The lenses look very sharp. And I bet that you can fix that C3 shutter with your eyes blindfolded.

Only if one has the parts, Julio. It's usually a spring lever that breaks, rendering the shutter into a one speed. Since I don't use them but once in a great while, I'm not going to worry about it. What with my forgetting to wind film or cocking the shutter, or getting a finger in the way of the cocking lever, it's not a fun camera to use.

The only reason I ever got one was because my Dad used to have one, and once someone found out I had it, they started giving me more of them. I probably have enough to last my remaining lifetime. I do plan on fixing the C4-Geiss as that is a much easier repair, and I do want to see what those Lithagon lenses will do, especially the 135mm which is pretty rare.
