Rollei 35 SE inside lens

Post by alexvaras »

Hello,

I look for advice, finally I checked closely why I can't get good results from it.

Outside lens is clean:

Inside we can see:

Shutter mechanism is oily, and maybe the lens has splatters from it?

So... Can I clean the inside lens the same way as the outside?
Should the shutter looks like that? Or drier? (Im afraid I was cheated when I bought it...)

Advices are welcome.
Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

You can remove the rear element of this lens. There are two slots for a spanner wrench, although some spanner wrenches might not work because your space inside of the lens chamber is very small. Much smaller than other cameras.

You can also remove the front element of this lens, which will allow you to clean nearly all of your lens surfaces.

Find some eyeglass cleaner. That should do the trick.

From the photo, it's difficult to say if that is dust or if the glass is etched (permanently).

I could not remove the inside lens, bad wrench and bad me :) I tried to do it with the lens collapse, result bad movement and some metal paint out.

On my way to learn I hope to think more what I do before doing it :)

Anyway I cleaned it as a normal procedure, just the outside, I think it went fine, Im going to shoot something and see.

Good work. That looks much cleaner. You should find some flat black paint and paint the parts where the paint was removed.

This is what I used for touching up paint.

For small areas, I will use a rolled-up piece of tissue held with tweezers to apply the paint, rather than the large tip on this paint marker.

Soak up the paint from the tip and then touch it to the area that needs to be painted.

I like the Rollei 35. A really excellent camera.

On this camera, I like the Tessar lens more than the Sonnar.
