PortraitPro software

I received an email the other day about this piece of software, so I visited the site (http://www.portraitprofessional.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

To tell you the truth, the "After" photos sort of creeped me out a bit. Actually, a lot.

The software is pitched as airbrushing tools, but I wonder if things have gone overboard.

The "after" versions seemed so far from reality that they almost seem like a CGI character in a Final Fantasy game/movie and no longer a real human being.

I guess it's all in how you apply the effects, but it just seems to go way too far for my tastes.

Of course, this could lead to a lengthy rant about the fashion industry and how they try to portray perfection. And another about being politically correct.

The truth is that we're all imperfect, and that is OK with me. That's what makes us interesting is that we're all different and flawed. I find flawed people a hell of a lot more interesting than someone who has had a perfect unspoiled life.

I guess that turned into a mini-rant after all.

I know what you mean. Those "After" shots are positively creepy. The Before shots showed real women's living faces, but the Afters are like corpse flesh.

But I could buy something like that, I think, for the rather more subtle things, like downplaying big red zits, or whatever.

I notice there is no price for that product on their page. Is it a case of "If you have to ask . . ."?

Oh, I just clicked further. It's regularly CAN$99 but on sale for $49 with a coupon for another $5 off that.

I get sick of seeing their ads on PetaPixel. Quite the most obnoxious thing I've seen in a long time.

Seen their ads all over the place, including in magazines. The software may be capable, but the ads never fail to bother me.

Very creepy, and very in keeping with the seemingly prevailing contemporary bad taste.

I have Portrait Professional Pro and I can tell you that the degree to which it is applied is entirely controllable. The strength of it's effect can be controlled from within the software and can also be applied as a layer in Photoshop and therefore made as transparent as is desired. If used with discretion it is very very good and saves me literally hours of work the "old fashioned" way. The ads do not do it justice at all.

I use it to make a portrait "saleable". No-one likes how they look, and I use it to soften crows-feet, eliminate skin blemishes, remove scars and whiten teeth, all of which make a woman look better than she thought she looks and consequently happy to show me the money!

There has always been touching up done in portraiture, but the degree to which they are proposing in their advert that you can manipulate the image is truly pushing the limit of good taste.

Well, someone at the company has to approve the ad.
