Flickr moved to new servers...finally back on line...sort of

As some of you know, the folks at Smugmug who purchased Flickr from Yahoo a while back have been planning to move everything to new servers in order to wrest it from Yahoo's control.

I don't think it went as smoothly as they hoped. IT types always seem to be a tad overconfident in their plans. Anyway, there are some hiccups still happening, as first the Uploader was broken, then some folks said they lost all their followers, and who they were following. But it seems to be running okay for now.

In celebration of the event, I uploaded a photo I took the other day of my neighbor's truck. It's his pride and joy, so I waited until there were no other vehicles parked near it, and the evening sky was a little cloudy. I was going for the look that I remember from thumbing through the pages of Ford Motor Company brochures back in the seventies and eighties. I used a bit of fill flash, and cropped tightly to remove any distracting elements. I then printed, framed, and presented it to him for his birthday.

Is that an F250? Made a lot of miles on one a long time ago. Diesel engine though. I can see why your neighbor is proud.

That shot looks out of a Ford brochure. Somehow the wheels do not seem natural to me.

It's an F100 Ranger, Julio. The wheels are a custom addition, so it sits a bit higher than normal. And yeah, they don't look very natural at all. It's even worse when viewed in full profile. Second vehicle I ever owned was a 1969 F250, with the 360cid V8. It wasn't as big a gas hog as the '73 F250 Ranger XLT with a 390cid V8. Good thing that one had twin fuel tanks so I could haul 40 gallons of gas.

I hedged my bets and stayed signed in, Larry. Seemed to be the best thing to do from what I've read of others experiences. The phone app came back online today, but it still has some issues.

I don't think the Smugmug team looked at previous update issues when Yahoo was in charge, and thought they couldn't possibly screw it up. Yet some of the very same hiccups have occurred as in previous overhauls.

I can't sign in either. Old yahoo doesn't seem to work. I thought I had created a new smugmug login, but that doesn't work either.

I could sign in last night from Yahoo, no less. Have never changed to a smugmug ID.

One of the many online complaints about signing in to Flickr describes my problem: "I can't sign in! I switched to the new Flickr login on April 22. When I try to Log in I get redirected to the Yahoo sign in page. Then I get a message that I switched to the new Flickr login. I go back to the new Flickr log in and then the whole process repeats. "

I was pretty satisfied when it first came back online, but now with all the fixes they had to do, there are more things wrong, and it's not as fast anymore. Sigh...

Phil - Have you been able to do a fresh sign-in or have you maintained being signed in from before the mess started? I still cannot log in.
