ohhhhhh how i hate, despise, detest etc all the corporation that charge double and and triple for products/services just because we are in australia. especially in this day and age fast internet and global logistics networks what make the sending of mail and freight quite reasonable( within reason)
it starts of with Adobe charging us more than twice what they charge American customers for their Photo suite (according to their CEO it's what australian customers want.....i am sure the Guy was breastfed through an angora jumper and born with 2 Dicks......you can't become that stupid playing with just the one.... )
and now i just got my K-3 (lovely camera.i am very pleased with it.) BUT
i need to buy the Pentax -O FC card to use the remote control function from my tablet.....again not a big deal.

in the USA this card is around $90.00US or $130.00AUS.

the retailers here want - get this- anything from $180 - $300+.......No Fecking Way.
i know where i will be getting my card .....and it ain't gonna be with the local guys.

okay.rant over .

I know many have complained about the costs of living in the Southern Hemisphere, but I wonder if some of those prices reflect out-of-date import laws, too? But marketers will always take advantage of a remote area. It costs just as much to ship something from South Africa as it does Australia, and the prices aren't much better, either.

there is actually no commercial reason to charge these prices. the australian consumer commission has been investigating these inflated prices as well as geo blocking .and has started legal proceedings in some cases. in most cases it is just a tool to extract more money and increase profits , rather than charging a fair price.sounds kinda familiar.....

I'm just seeing this now, but I feel your pain. Here in Canada, we are routinely charged much more than our American friends, and a lot of companies in the U.S. won't even ship here, no matter how much you are willing to pay. And, we're right beside them, which makes it all the more baffling and aggravating.

The US has lower prices than almost anywhere in the western world.
I have seen that while living in south america, and even europe.
Panama and a few other tax-free places are probable the only other options.
