Sept. 28, 2014 - Nikon has added to its FX format lineup with the D810-HD, which it is marketing toward filmmakers.
The new model captures 36.3 million pixels from its full-frame CMOS sensor.
Like the other SLRs, it uses the famed Nikon F bayonet. The camera can accept G, E and D lenses. When the DX lenses (for APS-C digital cameras) are attached, the sensor switches to a cropped output of 24x16.
Viewfinder magnification is 0.7x, and has built-in diopter correction for eyeglass wearers.
Shutter speeds run from 1/8000 to 30 seconds plus B and can capture up to five frames per second and up to 7 frames per second when a DX lens is mounted to the camera.
Base ISO runs from 64-12,800 and can be extended to 51,200.
There are two memory-card sots - one each for Compact Flash and SD, including HC and XC cards.
Like most cameras today, it features Live View, which functions both in still and movie modes. Movies are limited to 20 minutes at the highest quality and 29 minutes, 59 seconds at normal quality. An external microphone can be attached to the camera. The camera has a 3.2 inch LCD screen, which is in a fixed position. That is, it doesn't articulate.
Nikon claims 1,200 photos per charge. The body weighs 31.1 ounces (880 grams).
