Perking up the Perkeo

After several years of storage, the little Perkeo went on a walk in Punta del Este harbor, a large place which is chock full of expensive yachts in the summer. Temperature was about 95 F, too warm even for our summer.

I like this little folder because of its very compact size, simplicity and that Voigtlander smoothness; have used it as a travel film camera. Pleasure starts already when loading film, with the cool swinging supports for the film roll and the take-up spool.

My Perkeo has a Vaskar triplet which is not bad at f/8 and below. Look at these full-size and cropped examples. I shot almost all the FP4+ roll at 1/300 in f/11.

Can you read the dials?

A couple more frames from the roll, portraits of the fishing vessels moored in their harbor section.

I botched a frame because of incomplete winding (age takes its toll) but anyway half of it came out. This was at f/5.6.

Developed in home-made D-23 1:1, first time I use this mix.

I liked the Perkeo. I had one at one time (and might still have it). I can't wait until I retire so I can spend more time with cameras and film and less time with spreadsheets.

Match this with the 35mm version and you will have the perfect pairing for any photo excursion. Lovely photos as usual, Julio.

Thanks PF! I do have a couple of Vito 35mm folders, that is a good suggestion.

Very nice series of images. I have the earlier model with the Colour Skopar lens - don't recall what it is called.
