Playing with color...

Hi all -

Bought my wife some tulips last week. Had to take a picture of them. Dragged out the 4x5 and the new-to-me Xenar 210/4.5 and shot the below on 4x5 FP4+.

I've never done hand coloring before, I don't have a darkroom, skills, or really desire to master that technique. I have a hybrid, but largely digital workflow. Looked up some information on masking and colorizing black and white photos. I took a reference photo on digital so I'd have colors to sample for masking. Followed along with a video on YouTube. I would not be able to do this again without the instruction. But I'm happy with how it turned out. Not sure I'll do this very often, but it's the effect I had in mind, and was a bit of practice with CS5 that I don't normally do.

Thanks for looking,
Scott

The tones remind me of old hand-colored portraits. A very nice image, whatever the technique. Light is just right and one feels an urge to touch that tulip!

Yeah, the coloring does have that hand-laid look to it. Excellent first try, Scott.

Thank you, gents. Hell of it is, when I shot this, I shot two sheets of what I thought was FP4+. When I was getting ready to develop I noticed the "P" I'd written on the note tabs. Yep - I shot two sheets of Provia. Oops.

So, was it hand-colored? Or Provia? :-)

Thanks guys! Not the Provia. I will eventually buy a kit and develop E6, but this was the FP4+ and some CS5 work.
