Damn spring…

Okay fixit gurus, I need a tip: I purchased a toy, a Super Fujica Six.

Shutter release isn’t working. That’s it. Elsenhow the camera’s cherry. Investigated (after contacting the seller, ‘cause it wasn’t cheap), found the return spring on the release linkage was off.

This spring

Goes on this tab

Okay, obvious enough. BUT, how the hell do I actually connect it? Not sure what the best way is, as the tab is on the other side of the linkage, and I DON’T want to scratch anything in case it goes back.

Tips? Gracias!

Sewing thread and pull the spring until you reach the other side and then hook it up. Does it sound easy? I never tried but I think the thread should be good to be pulled without breaking.

Alex, you da man!

So, decided monofilament would be a bit more robust. Took a few iterations but realized tying kind of a noose in the line would give me something easier to loop over the spring than trying to fish it through (see what I did there?!).

Pulled it under the arm, hooked it in place, and cut the monofilament in the loop to pull the line free.

Seems to work fine now:

Really pretty straightforward. Kind of embarrassed I didn't figure that out.

Seller has already replied that he will open a claim with FedEx, but I'm going to let him know that the release issue is resolved. There's a little lean in the advance knob, but I'm not sure that wasn't there initially and I just didn't notice it in the video. I'll follow up with him, maybe he'll give me a partial refund, but the advance and counter work perfectly, so I'm not really too concerned.

Pictures forthcoming!

Well done! These are good cameras, nice viewfinder, good RF patch and decent lens.

The advance knob on mine is perfectly level.

Thanks guys!

I looked closer at the images in the ad and the advance knob was already wonky. The female threaded post integral to the knob is actually canted; the shaft below is not bent. There’s zero indication that this was ever dropped on the knob, and there isn’t any evidence of any stress or cracking. Just looks like it was cast wrong. Works fine, just a little disappointing. But, I don’t own anything (literally anything) that’s unblemished. So…
