Brooklyn from a Box

A couple of weekends ago I decided I needed to give that king of box cameras, the Box Tengor, a bit of an outing. So, jumped on the ebike, headed down the hill, then rode all the way up another hill on the other side of town.

I rode past Central Park and up the steep hill to Brooklyn. Not that Central Park, and not that Brooklyn. That would have been a bit too far, even with an ebike! Brooklyn being one of the higher hill suburbs on the southern side of Wellington city. It's the site of some gun emplacements that looked over the Cook Strait and Wellington harbour. It's also the site of the first wind turbine, installed specifically to test the durability and suitability in generating power from Wellington's infamous winds. Fortunately on this day the wind was light.

In addition to the Box Tengor, I also dragged along my Canon FTb and a new-to-me silver nosed 35mm f3.5 that I picked up for cheap.

Here's some shots from the Box Tengor. These were shot on some mid-noughties expired TriX. It's certainly a lot more capable than your typical box camera, with three focus settings and three aperture settings.

I think it did very well. I particularly like the first one.

Beautiful series from that worthy box. The film held well through the years!

The Box Tengor was always on my list of desirable cameras for the same reasons you mentioned, Paul. Really good output from that camera considering the age of the film.

Is that the prewar or postwar Box Tengor? I'm a big fan of the postwar camera.

Mine is the postwar model.
