Camera Talk

Hi, all -

Last November my son and his current SO visited from Evanston. Met them at PHL; she had never been to Center City so we headed there from the airport and did touristy stuff. It was my first actual outing with the Super Fujica Six; I had no idea if anything worked correctly. Ran a couple rolls through the camera and moved on with my life. Shot some film in Delaware a bit ago, posted about it here somewhere, was underwhelmed. Decided today I should probably see how the first photos turned out, and my son is probably curious about all the pictures I took of them. So, developed the FP4+ and did some scanning. Here're the better ones of the roll.

Mulberry Market on Arch Street


Elfreth's Alley. Very cool place. Highly recommended if you're in the area, and there's an 18th century Windsor shop - who could want anything more?


Independence Hall

The Liberty Bell. Somehow, my MiL is related to either the Pass or the Stow family. It's tenuous, but kinda cool.

I am much happier with these shots. Just about as happy as I could be (at least from a gear perspective). The camera works great, the lens seems at least adequate (jk). The Liberty Bell shot was handheld, maybe 1/10 sec, pretty open. I didn't give that one any chance, and I think it turned out fine. Biggest surprise on the roll.

Actually, the biggest surprise is what wasn't there - none of the pictures of my son and his SO. Turns out, the first first roll was/is a roll of Ektar. Color? Me? WTH? That roll is on my dresser. And, somehow, there's another roll of Ektar in the camera right now. Apparently buying C41 chemistry soon.

Have a bunch of cameras with a bunch or rolls at about 2/3 shot. Stay tuned - hope to be developing more soon.

Thanks, Robert. C41 chemistry on order. See how it goes - may start trolling eBay for old color 120...

Looks plenty sharp enough. Looking forward to the colo(u)r shots.

How do you find the overall handing & viewfinder?

I like the camera. It’s got a few idiosyncrasies - the advance needs to be unlocked when first turning, then the little slide released, or you just keep cranking film away (DAMHIKT). The viewfinder is actually on the right, which is counter to, I think, every single camera I’ve ever owned. But it’s not bad, I actually prefer it, just takes some getting used to. The rangefinder is really nice. Now that I have some evidence that the Fujinar is legit, I’m really excited about the camera!

Very nice results there, definitely the camera performs well! Hope that you can get to develop those rolls soon!

Thanks! Big box from Freestyle came in, yesterday? Still sitting by the front door. I'm hoping tomorrow to grab a couple of the, like, six cameras I have with partial/mostly done rolls in them and go walk around somewhere and finish them off. One of them also has color in it; unfortunately, I didn't label any of them, so I have no idea what's in them. Should be interesting...
