Rollei infrared film

Post by melek »

I've shot this film with variable results.

While Kodak HIE was an awesome film, it also could be quirky to handle. I still have one boxed roll.

Anyway, shooting infrared film really works best with a non-SLR, non-electronic camera. For me, it's going to be a rangefinder or the Rollei 35 for a 35mm camera.

I shot these a couple of years ago.

There is vignetting in this photo. Because the aperture scale is on the front of the lens, attaching a lens shade makes it really difficult to view the settings. So I extended the filter by using an old filter without the glass. But adding a real filter in the front causes vignetting.

These I shot with the Contax IIa and the 21mm Biogon. Both of these are in Cape May, N.J., in early May.

I think shooting infrared film requires a bit of luck.

Well, if so, you've got the luck. The last one is awesome.

I have never shot IR film, closest was Ilford SFX. The clouds effects are impressive.

I don't know the mechanics of it but the results are fantastic.

That little white dot on the horizon in the third photo is the Cape May Lighthouse.

 Really nice, Mike! That's something I'll have to try one day.

Nice. I have a roll of that in the freezer in 35mm I can't find my IR filter so I will try it with a red 29.

If we all saw the world the same no one would need a camera.

Those are great, dramatic photos. I don't know anything about the process, but I'm impressed by the results.

They're all great shots, but I particularly like the third one : great sky. More of this please.
